Does your child like to read, or do they avoid it at all costs?

Let Them Pick Out Their Own Books
When you are visiting the bookstore or taking a trip to the library, let them select their own books. This increases the chances of them actually reading the material. Don’t try to force on them what you want them to read. Instead, allow them to independently make book choices based off their own interest.
Take Regular Visits to the Library
There are so many awesome events that take place at local libraries weekly. Get involved! The more your child is exposed to this environment, they’ll most likely adopt a love for reading. Make visiting the library a regular thing for your family. Don’t just check out books and go. Visit when you have enough time to let them explore and embrace the environment.
Read Together as a Family
As a kid, I always enjoyed reading out loud to my class. This technique is a fun way for the family to get in some reading time together. Pick a certain day of the week to read together as a family. Make it fun! Get in character by dressing up and even by switching up the location at which you read.
Bring the Books Theme to Life
Find unique ways to bring books to life! Whether the book speaks of a specific snack and you all chow down on those snacks while reading or if there are costumes, stuffed animals or a certain part of your home that makes you feel like you are right there in the book utilize that for good. Get creative and make it fun!
Join a Book Club
Joining a book club is a great way for your child to interact with peers. Most kids enjoy being around kids their own age so they would hopefully find some inspiration to read so that they can discuss it with friends. If you can’t find a local book club, create one! Make your child the CEO and let them get involved in selecting members, picking locations and even offering book recommendations.
Create a Fun Reading Space at Home
Everyone should have a space in their home where they find peace and relaxation. Determine what that place is for your child and make it their reading space. You can decorate it to make it a really fun space. Whether it is a window seat, closet space or a corner of their room, try making a fun and inspirational place to read.
Read Outdoors
Who doesn’t love fresh air? Take a trip to the park and read. Once the kids are done with their designated reading time, reward them with open play. How about a picnic in the backyard? Grab a blanket and your favorite book and head outdoors. Once you finish up reading, enjoy some picnic snacks.
Travel to the Places you Read About
Traveling to the places you read about is a great way to make a text-to-world connection. Your child would love getting an up close and personal look at what they read all about. Build this excitement for them!
Try an Audiobook or Watch Movies Related to the Book You’re Reading
Switch things up! Sometimes traditional reading may get boring for them. Try listening to an audiobook together and then quiz them to make sure they retained what they heard. Also, if there are movies associated with your book of choice, watch it as a family. This sounds like fun!
