Are you prepared for the cold and flu season?
Every year, as kids flock back to school and the seasons change we’re haunted by the daunting tasks of trying to stay ahead of the cold and flu season. As germs spread from contacts outside the home, the onset of sore throats, sneezing, coughing, runny noses, and congestion invade our lives.
As a result, I’m all about cold and flu prevention. I like to get a jump start on protecting my family by creating a game plan and sticking to it. It’s nothing worst then being sick and still trying to take care of your household or caring for a sick child and trying to keep from catching the bug yourself.
As moms, I’m sure we want nothing more than to stay indoors and hibernate until this season passes. Unfortunately, it’s not realistic! Thankfully, there are some great ways to prepare for it!

5 Simple Things You Should Do Now To Prepare For The Cold And Flu Season
Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet
Start with cleaning out your medicine cabinet. This is the best time to throw away expired medicine, vitamins and other health essentials. It’s crazy how fast things can become outdated! Expired medicine can be harmful so its best to check dates before you consume it or give it to anyone else.
Quick and Easy Process:
- Pull everything out so that you can conveniently check expiration dates.
- Throw away all expired medicine and other healthcare essentials.
- Take inventory of what you will need for the cold & flu season.
- Wipe down medicine bottles and boxes to get rid of any dust, spilled contents or germs.
- Wipe down and sanitize the inside and outside of medicine cabinet.
- Store away whatever medicine and healthcare essentials you have left, being sure to keep it categorized and organized.
Take inventory of everything you need and add it to your stock up essentials to be placed on your cold and flu season checklist.
Stock Up On Essentials
When it comes to preparing for the cold and flu season, you need to stock up on essentials early. Having a cold or the flu brings a ton of different symptoms with it and you never know which ones you’re going to get. It’s not unlikely for you to experience chills, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, aches or congestion. As a result, it’s best to stock up on the essentials you need early so that you will be prepared for whatever comes your way.
I always make it a point to stop at my local Kroger to stock up on some of my favorite cold and flu essentials. Kroger always has such great deals and coupons available to make your shopping trip more affordable. Having a Kroger just a short distance from my house makes it super easy to pick up all of my essential items there. While you are completing your cold & flu season checklist, don’t forget to include Kleenex®, Lipton and Theraflu at your local Kroger. This combination of wellbeing products has always been in my good graces!
Kleenex is one of those products you can never have too much of! The Kleenex Lotion Tissues are my favorite because they are Soothing Lotion infused with pure aloe and vitamin E and soothes tender skin. Pure Aloe & Vitamin E is a bonus! When a cold or flu has you down it’s nothing worst then the constant nose blowing and wiping. I always make it a point to use Kleenex because its the dependable care and ultimate softness you need during such a trying time. My nose has never steered me wrong and when I use these the risk of my nose being sore or raw is slim to none.

Wash Hands Often
On the daily we come in contact with a lot of germs, whether we are shaking someone’s hand, touching door handles or pushing a shopping cart at the grocery store. Realistically, most people don’t wash their hands as often as they should. Proper hand washing and the frequency at which we do it is the best line of defense against germs.
I find with my own kids that they use cold water and that they don’t wash their hands long enough. This is a constant battle in my house! You should be washing your hands with warm water for at least 20 seconds, including with soap and scrubbing.
Make it a habit now to practice proper hand washing techniques and this won’t cost you when we’re at the peak of cold & flu season. Keep hand sanitizer with you for those times that you don’t have access to water.
Be Good To Yourself
Simply put, you need to get more rest! Getting the proper amount of sleep each day is definitely an immunity booster. Being well rested keeps you more susceptible to fighting off most germs and viruses. Shooting for at least eight hours of sleep each night should be your goal going into the cold & flu season and beyond. There are so many benefits of practicing an effective bedtime routine. If you are looking to prepare yourself this is an easy fix. After all, who doesn’t love resting!?
Another way to be good to yourself is by being conscious of what you put in your body. Eating healthier meals, consuming high amounts of fruits and vegetables, and incorporating some form of exercise is also beneficial to you as you prepare for this intimidating season. A healthy lifestyle helps boost your immunity and gives you more energy for sure!
Give Your Home A Thorough Cleaning
Give your home a big thorough cleaning now so that when cold and flu season reaches its peak your cleaning schedule will be easier to manage. A good cleaning will help break down all the dust, germs and allergens that fight your immune system. Make it fun by gathering your family to do it together. Put on some fun music and get it done!

I had no clue Lipton had herbal teas. Kroger is my favorite store to shop just about anything. So I will make sure I check out Lipton teas. I’m not so much a fan of Therflu I dislike the taste, but it does its job. Just praying that the flu is not the case this year and my household. Thanks for sharing this informative post. Have a blessed and healthy season!
