Have you ever been to the San Antonio Zoo?
Recently, my family had the opportunity to take a day trip to San Antonio and visiting their zoo was first on our list of things to do. My family loves taking trips to the zoo. Something about catching unique glimpse of animals in their natural habitat and learning about them never gets old.
I heard so many great things about San Antonio Zoo so I was thrilled that we finally got the chance go check it out for ourselves.
Fall is such a great time to visit because they offer so many cool events and fun experiences that the entire family will enjoy! From Zoo Boo to Zoo Lights you’re sure to be entertained. However, I love that San Antonio Zoo hosts so many unique events throughout the entire year that’s sure to peak any animal lovers interest.
The zoo grounds are so green, plush and full of life. We enjoyed the feeling of being swept away into the animals serene habitat if only for a day…

FEEDING THE GIRAFFES
This is the ultimate zoo experience. Feeding the Giraffes was a ton of fun! For only $7 you get three pieces of lettuce to feed them and you get to walk away with a memory you will hold on to forever. So step right up and gaze straight into the eyes of this cute animal. I will admit that they eat fast so be sure to grab pictures to make the fun last. This opportunity is offered daily at the interactive feeding station at 10AM, 12PM, 2PM AND 4PM. However, the times are subject to change.
During our visit, the line was super short. We were able to walk right and meet our new friend. Our family of four all embarked on this adventure and we have the photos to prove it! However, if you don’t have anyone to snag your pictures there are photographers on standby who will take a professional picture of yourself and the giraffe for purchase at the photo stand.
Africa Live
Trust me, you will want to visit Africa Live!
It’s a complete underwater experience and the hippos are the stars. The cool part is you can document your visit to Africa Live with a really cool photo at the photo station located right in the center of it all. The glass window to witness this under water adventure is massive. It takes up an entire wall and the fun part is watching the hippos walk and swim the entire stretch. Watch closely, they just may put on a show for you as they come up for air, blow water and then exit on to dry land for you confirm just how huge they really are!
The Reptile House
Let’s just be real, reptiles are super interesting! It’s such a vast variety that its hard to keep track. The way they camouflage themselves within their environment is simply amazing! Their scaly skin is enough to make your skin crawl but their array of colors and textures are absolutely beautiful. The fact that they shed their skin, their reproduction process and cool tricks is enough to peaks any ones interest. Snakes, turtles, lizards…Oh My!
Out of all the animals and exhibits in the zoo, visiting the Reptile House sparked the most conversation for our family.
Fun Farm
Who doesn’t want the chance to get up close and personal with animals? Don’t miss your opportunity!
Stop by the Fun Farm for your chance to interact with and learn about pigs, goats and chickens. The great thing is that this fun petting zoo is open daily and its a great experience for children of all ages and adults alike. Get your camera ready cause its sure to be a fun time!
Zoo Boo
I don’t know one kid that don’t like Halloween and all the spooktacular fun that comes along with it!
Well, at San Antonio Zoo its a non-spooky celebration that the whole family will love! It takes place every year on Saturdays and Sundays from the end of September until the end of October. The zoo is adorned in some of the coolest garb and there is plenty of fun activities sprinkled throughout the grounds. From trick-or-treat stations and a hay maze to pumpkin painting and Halloween games.
There are costume contest, plenty of photo opportunities and a complete schedule of fun!
The Birthday Boy Had A Blast
Currently, KJ has an obsession with animals. This was a fun and memorable way to feed his love for animals on his 9th Birthday. I’m always scouring Texas for family fun and the San Antonio Zoo sure fit the bill!
If you too have an animal lover in your life, I encourage you to celebrate their big day here as well! It’s the perfect place to have a birthday party or a day of fun on their special day.
Tips:
- Wear comfortable shoes! As with any zoo there is a ton of walking.
- Come when you don’t have to rush. The zoo is not flat. There are some inclines so you want to be able to take your time so that you don’t tire out.
- Visit at opening. Its a sure way to be beat the crowd and maybe some of the Texas heat too.
- Bring your own bottled water and small- sized snack items that they allow. This will save you money during your visit.
- Don’t forget your sun screen! While this is a pretty shady zoo there is still some exposure to the sun so always protect your skin.
