Traveling to Shreveport, Louisiana and looking to pacify your sweet tooth?
You have come to the right place! Outside of the southern charm and unmatched cajun flair, one area that sucked me in was their food scene. Particularly, their knack for simple, yet delectable sweet treats. Shreveport is a foodies paradise and you can’t pay them a visit without trying out some of the city’s staples.
Pick your poison, whether it is donuts, beignets, pralines and everything in between they have something just for you. As they continue to make waves for their rich history and unique charm they boasts down home culinary treasures that you just won’t find anywhere else.
In my recent visit to the city, I managed to satisfy my sweet tooth, squeezing in as much of the city’s edible charm and discovering a laundry list of must eat sweets in the process…

Marilynn’s Place
Address: 4041 Fern Ave., Shreveport, LA 71105
Dust yourself off after indulging in Beignets at Marilynn’s Place
I’ve never had a Beignet like this before. Marilynn’s Place has it down to a science! A warm crispy outside with a flaky center like nothing I have ever tasted before. One dip in the sweet jam it’s paired with and your palate will be screaming for more. After pigging out on Sunday brunch, I set myself a goal to only eat one. Seriously, I failed and literally had to focus on other things to keep my hand from gravitating to this sweet treat.
The best part is that the Beignets are served all day! Sweet jam, powdered sugar, warm flaky crust….OH MY!
Southern Maid Donuts
Address: Multiple Locations
Grab a dozen of donuts from Southern Maid. “You can get them piping hot after 4 PM”
A Shreveport staple, where hot donuts is their thing. Their rich history is iconic to the area and no one does hot donuts quite like them. When you see the neon words “HOT, HOT, HOT” lighting up the sky, this is your queue to pull over and get you a box. They are hot and each bite melts in your mouth, literally. You can not eat just one!
Fun fact: Elvis did the only commercial of his life for the iconic Southern Maid Donuts! He sang their jingle. “You can get ’em piping hot after four PM, you can get ’em piping hot.”
Whisk Dessert Bar
Address: 724 Azalea Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana 71106
Go eat delectable Bouchons and Tigre Amandes on porcelain dishes
I’m convinced this is one of the trendiest places in town. You couldn’t guess that every dessert is made from scratch until you sink your teeth into the richness and taste the quality ingredients and integrity in each bite. They have something for every palate and with some gluten free and dairy free options they are really setting the bar high.
Everything I tasted was amazing! The hot chocolate is delicious, the Bouchons and Tigre Amandes were superb and their infamous Whiskuits are a game changer. I love that they serve your dessert on porcelain dishes. This element adds a pinch of sophistication! So grab a seat in one of the high top seats that align the window seal and let the moment last forever.
Creole Cafe & Catering
Address: 2814 Greenwood Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana 71109
Take a seat at the table and chat with Dr. Griffin over a bowl of each cobbler
This small, family ran cafe packs a big punch of flavor! Somewhere nestled between delicious traditional Louisiana dishes lies a peach cobbler that’s just waiting to be eaten. It was warm and oh so sweet. The only thing that could have made it better was a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I love that the owners make every visitor feel like part of the family. Creole Cafe has that down home vibe with a ton of cajun flair. Please don’t discount the cuisine because it’s just as awesome as the service.
2 Johns Steak & Seafood
Address: 2151 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA 71111
Bask in the cozy atmosphere and enjoy spoon fulls of Creme Brulee
My favorite part of eating creme brulee is the crispy, burnt sugar that layers the top. 2 Johns spin on this dish is the perfect balance of crispness and rich custard. While a show is not put on at your dining table, you could never tell. It’s fresh, crisp and one of their most popular desserts.
